This blog was first created in March 2010. Since then I moved to Wordpress so that I could have a "more professional experience"...
But it didn't work out, as I posted a caption from Fergie's video clip featuring Slash... (I had no absolute idea that people still used Google to search for Celebrity asses, but as it seems...) all my visits were about her ass...

So, I moved back here and I'm liking the new Blogger interface! It reveals innovation and cleanliness (I have no idea how to spell that)!

Since I moved here, I haven't posted very often and I think that it made lose regular visits... But I want that to change and I need your help!

After saying this, my experiment came an end, and it went pretty well. Yesterday (3rd Jannuary), I got 29 visitors, meaning 120% the number of visitors from the day before...

Social networking, the first step for success

Today I made a very interesting experiement. I wanted to test how social networking would affect the number of visits to my blog, and I must say I´m very surprised with the outcome.

First, I checked my blog stats and saw that yesterday I had a total of 24 visits, and average of one visit per hour...
Then I tweeted all my (most) important posts.
The final step was to check the results. And I am completely amazed by how it worked!
Basically, in less than 30 minutes I got 20 visitors, 75% of the number of visitors from yesterday... Now if I manage to build a bog that could tweet my posts every x minutes, I could get more than 800 visits per day...
Not that quantity means quality, but it`s nice to see my work spread around the globe! But that`s another topic for a future post...

Americans and SOPA

I am currently waching a movie called Deep Impact. For those who don´t know, this movie is about a comet whose trajectory passes through Earth. Basically is just like Armageddon (and both of them were released on the same year).
During the movie I couldn´t stop thinking about the power that the president of the United States has. It´s just like: if the future of the planet depends on the push of a button, he pushes it; if a decision has to be made, his opinion is the most important...
And all that made me think about S.O.P.A. - the Stop Online Piracy Act. The U.S. right know holds the power to change the only thing that is supposed to be uncensored: the Internet.
Once again, every american has the power to make a change. But is that change positive? Let´s think about it...
I love this T.V. show called How I Met Your Mother. In my country sometimes it´s broadcasted over a year late. One of my options is to wait more than a year for the episode to air. As I´m one of luckiest people ever, my life makes me miss the show. Then, I have to wait more than a week for it to be re-broadcasted.
By then, I am obliged to watch at that moment, or I may never watch it again.
Now, with torrents and p2p sharing, I have the chance to watch the episodes I never had the chance to. It´s not wrong... It`s just an amazing human capacity to provide every single internet user with an equal opportunity, in this case, to watch my favorite show. Without illegal sharing, this show (and the rest of the shows worldwide) would lose millions of viewers...

Quit Smoking

As we entered 2012, I feel obliged to scratch something of my list.

Perhaps the fastest thing to do on my list is to quit smoking...

But how can I really tell if I stopped? Does it take a day without a cigarette, a week, a month?

Well, if life thought me anything is that I should never say I'll do something without establishing a deadline first.

So, I'll say it will be over within a smoke-free month.

Tutorial #1 - How to work with torrents

Not so long ago, I found that a great percentage of internet-using people don't know how to work with torrents.

So, here you'll find some tips for working with torrent files.

First you will need to get some software to execute the torrents you'll be downloading, software like BitTorrent or uTorrent (like BitTorrent, but lighter) are probably the most used worldwide, but if you don't like to use mainstream apps, you can always use zButterfly like I do...

When you have all set-up, you just need a file with the .torrent extension. The "problem" is where to get your torrents from... You have tons of sites and torrent directories to choose from. The best and the one that I use is ThePirateBay.

Now you have to choose your files very carefully, because if you want to download something fast, you'll have to get the torrent with the greatest number of seeders.

The image above is what your search will look like at first. Now all you have to do is arrange the list by seeders (sedeers are the ones who are still uploading their content to the internet, and leechers are the ones downloading such content - this means that good torrents must have at all times a number of seeds greater than the number of leechers). To arrange the order of the torrents, just click the SE on the first row, as shown below:

The highlighted text is the uploader nickname. In this case (TV shows), those are the best ones (who never let you down).

When you find the torrent you are looking for, it should look like this:

You can see the double green arrows pointing down. It means that if you click there, you will download the file (not the episode in this case, but the torrent file) to open with the previous installed software.

If you have doubts if it is a good torrent and want to check other users' comments, just click the title of the torrent to go to it's page. It should look like this:

As you can see, I've drawn arrows pointing the link you should click if you choose to download that file. DON'T click the big download button! That downloads a program to do something that you really don't care for...

Two days ago a website showing some very interesting statistics came to my attention... It is named SocialBlade, and it shows the estimated earnings of YouTubers.

I am very curious about my popularity on the web (which is almost null) and guess what... I am pretty popular...
Not as popular like Ray William Johnson or KassemG, Lisanova, Toby Turner, ... But there are subscriptions to prove my popularity (like 30...) So... Everybody knows me (in my house).

But talking about more important stuff, I can't be a YouTube partner because I'm from one of the countries that doesn't get the chance to do so, but according to that website, I could be making from $2,73 to $29,09 per day (or if you will, from $995 to $10 617 per year). What this means is that because I was born in this country (which I will not reveal, but it is Portugal), I don't have the chance to earn money... Maybe it is called discrimination? Don't know, but I don't want to find out, in my opinion it's best to wait just a little bit longer.

Let's talk about YouTube!

So today I'm going to talk to you about the Shaytards...

3 (almost 4) years ago, Shay Carl Butler, a proud dad of three (amazing) kids was about to turn 29 and he thought about recording his last (365) days of his twenties... He started vlogging, everyday and introduced his wonderful family to the internet. They were originally five: ShayCarl (the dad), Katillete (Mommytard - her real name is Collete), Sontard (his oldest son - real name Gavin), Princesstard (middle-daughter - real name is Avia) and Babytard (his baby daughter - real name - Emmi). Shay didn't want us to know the real name of his kids, but you know how the Internet works... everything gets leaked somehow, and throughout the vlogs people catched their real names. (I'm just putting their names here because nowadays it's so easy to go on Google and search for "Shaytards real names"...).

Later in the vlogs Collete got pregnant and shared it with everyone. It was amazing to see the reactions of their audience! Almost two years ago Rocktard (the new baby-boy - real name is Brock) was born on the Internet - literally ON the Internet, Collete was on labor and Shay was hanging around her whit the video camera...

Without knowing, at first, the Shaytards created one of the most amazing shows on the Web. Everyday they opened the door of their house for us to spend at least 10 minutes of the day with them. Some of you might be asking "Why would I want to see other people's family on YouTube?", well, aside from the awesomeness that they are, it really brightens almost everyone 's day to see their good values.

They are Mormon. But not that kind of Mormon who lives in farms, isolated from society, etc.. They go to church, they respect the religion... They bring good to our planet!

If you're still asking why you should check them out, just think about how many times you tried to pursue your dreams... Shay always supported his wife's dreams and she supported his dreams as well. In the video below, you can check why their show became so popular.
How many of you has a six figure debt? Getting on YouTube and making a career out of it allowed ShayCarl to pay his + $195000 debt...

In my opinion, you should checked them and watch just a couple of vlogs... You'll be mindblowned by their positive attitude through life's unexpected adversities. Enjoy!

Smallville - the beginning of Superman

For the last week I've been watching the first four seasons of Smallville. This is a TV Show about Superman, but unlike all movies and shows previously done, this isn't the Superman we already know! This portraits Clark Kent (Tom Welling), (trying to be) a normal guy, discovering his powers throught different occasions. He already knows he is an alien, but where does he come from?

The only thing he knows (at least on the first episodes) is that he's not human, he came from space, along with a meteor shower, and he has certain capabilities that only he and his parents have knowledge. He struggles to help his friends, but he can't tell them the truth, which makes all of his relationships fail.

We all know that he ends with Lois Lane (or at least that she is his love interest), but before Lois, was there another girl?

Yes, her name is Lana Lang (Kristin Kreuk), "the most beautiful girl in high school". Her parents were killed by the meteor shower, an she was raised by her aunt.

As for the Superman's friends, we have Pete Ross (Sam Jones III) and Chloe Sullivan (Allison Mack). He is his most trustful friend, and she is the director of The Torch (the school newspaper). Just as a curiosity, Chloe wasn't mentioned in any comic book prior to the release of the show, but the comic book writers have now introduced her as a new character. This shows how well created and written the show was.

This show has become one of my favorites, because any person could easily identify themselves with any of the characters...

My advice: check it out! It's just ten seasons of pure TV greatness!

Maybe you didn't know this, but at any given minute, this is what happens on the web:

Sorry about the image quality... but as you can see, 25 hours of new footage is uploaded to youtube... That's about 600 videos. If my math is correct (and it is, because I used a calculator xD), 864 000 videos are uploaded to youtube every day (about 36 000 hours...).

It is in fact a lot of GB spent in moving pictures.

So, if you are a video-blogger (vlogger) or if you want direct your own creations, but you're on a tight budget, you should make your own props. It isn't that difficult.

I found out about this record tool on VLC and decided to try it and apparently it worked. I snipped some funny parts from several episodes of a show called How I Met Your Mother and uploaded them to Youtube...

It was all going awesome until I uploaded some parts of another show called The Big Bang Theory...

Batman fans reacted with anger on Thursday upon learning that director Christopher Nolan has ruled out using The Riddler in the upcoming movie The Dark Knight Rises. The movie, the third Batman under Nolan and currently scheduled to be released on July 20, 2012, will instead “introduce some new [characters]” as well as use some of the existing ones.

Nolan’s exclusion of The Riddler has angered many in the Batman fan community.

Fez Whatley, a well-known Batman fan and co-host of The Ron & Fez Show on Sirius XM, was particularly annoyed with Nolan’s decision. Whatley said on Thursday that he’d boycott allmovies unless Nolan reconsidered his decision.

“You need to have The Riddler,” said Whatley. Introducing other villains is fine, he said, but to ignore the “classic characters” is a mistake.

“The movie-going experience has been ruined for me,” he added.

Whatley is thought to be considering rallying the Whatley Posse, an informal fan group, in order to protest Nolan’s decision.

Earlier rumors had suggested that the new Batman film would feature Killer Croc, but this would appear to go against Nolan’s vision of a realistic Gotham City.

I live in a country that seems to dislike new technologies and/or walk away from them. But it isn't that bad, I mean, my country isn't one of those countries where people don't even know what a computer is... In my country everyone has a computer, but they don't know what Linux is.

Last week I was in school, and when I was rebooting my computer, it asked me what OS I wanted to start. I chose Ubuntu, and very quickly these restrictions started to appear: "You don't have permission" or "Log In as administrator"... I mean, what do we have to do so teachers and students (which by the way represent the future) stop using that s#$% from Bill Gates or from Steve Jobs?

Someone once told me that we are Ubuntu/Linux users, when we have Ubuntu as our OS, but when we have iOS, we become Apple costumers... I just don't understand why people are so affraid from change...

A 25 de Maio de 1961, em reacção ao sucesso de Gagarine, o presidente John Fitzgerald Kennedy jurou enviar um americano à Lua antes do fim da década. Lança, assim, a viagem à Lua.

A maioria dos americanos temia especialmente que, no caso de os cosmonautas russos serem os primeiros a chegar à Lua, a União Soviética reivindicasse o direito de a anexar, como é o caso da desoberta de terras inabitadas. ___________________________________________________________________________
O direito ao espaço
Em 1967, a Organização das Nações Unidas elabora uma carta do espaço que estipula que este deve ser utilizado para fins pacíficos. O Sistema Solar torna-se, ao mesmo tempo, um bem comum da humanidade. Desde então, já não é possivel colocar a questão de "conquistar" a Lua.
O único objectivo desta viagem será o prestígio nacional e a possibilidade de avançar a ciência.

A 16 de Julho de 1969, os astronautas Neil Armstrong, Edwin Aldrin e Michael Collins descolaram do Cabo Canaveral. Depois de uma viagem de quatro dias, a sua rede espacial, composta pelos módulos Columbia e Eagle, metia-se em órbita à volta da Lua. Armstrong e Aldrin instalaram-se no módulo de aterragem Eagle, enquanto Collins, que tinha ficado no Módulo Columbia, continuava a girar à volta da Lua. Pilotado por Armstrong, o Eagle desceu em direcção à superfície da Lua. Depois de sobrevoar um pouco para escolher um local favorável, desceram sobre o Mar da Tranquilidade. A 4 de Outubro de 1957, um pequeno barulho estranho e regular chega aos rádios amadores de todo o Mundo: "Bip, Bip, Bip, Bip...". Este sinal era do primeiro satélite artificial que os soviéticos acabavam de colocar em órbita: Spoutnik 1, uma bola de alumínio de 60 cm de diâmetro com dois pares de antenas. Com ele, os soviéticos ganham a primeira corrida ao espaço em plena "guerra fria", dá-se o invés aos americanos, e uma grande ameaça, porque o foguetão que lançou o Spoutnik derivou de um míssil que permitia aos soviéticos bombardear qualquer ponto do globo.

Um animal no espaço

Um mês depois de Spoutnik 1, os soviéticos enviaram pela primeira vez um ser vivo ao espaço: a pequena cadela Laika.. Estes sucessos espaciais conferem à União Soviética um imenso prestigio.

Os americanos tentam consolar-se ao enviar ao espaço, um mês mais tarde, Alan Shepard, mas o seu voo só dura um quarto de hora. A 20 de Fevereiro de 1962, John Glenn torna-se o primeiro americano em órbita. Mas já era muito tarde!

Os russos não se ficaram por aí: em Junho de 1962, enviam a primeira mulher a órbita, Valentina Terechkova.

No ano seguinte adiantam-se novamente: fazem voar três cosmonautas a bordo da mesma nave espacial. Em 1965, Alexei Leonov sai pela primeira vez da nave no espaço. Por fim, em Janeiro de 1969, os soviéticos conseguem ligar duas naves habitáveis. Mas o que fazia a América durante este tempo? Aprofunda o seu avanço tecnológico (em electrónica, informática, miniaturas e superioridade em motores a hidrogénio) e prepara-se para a sua grande vingança..."

Desde há algum tempo para cá, Paramore é basicamente a única banda que eu oiço... Não sei se será pelo estilo deles, ou até pela sua presença em palco, mas na minha opinião são uma das melhores bandas da actualidade.
Ainda estou para saber o que aconteceu ontem, mas ao que parece uma foto em topless da vocalista foi parar ao twitpic. Ela diz que a conta dela foi hackeada... Será?!

No curso que estou a tirar - Ciências e Tecnologias (ainda estou a tentar descobrir onde estão as tecnologias) - frequentemente realizo actividades experimentais, quer em Biologia e Geologia A e Física e Química A.
Como os relatórios entregues pecavam por falta de qualidade, o meu professor enviou-nos por e-mail uma matriz que deveríamos seguir para obtermos um relatório com alguma qualidade.

Quando pesquiso na Internet, apenas encontro relatórios que são cópias de outros relatórios feitos há alguns anos, e como eu gosto de ser ajudado quando preciso, achei que deveria ajudar alguém. Aqui fica um link para a referida matriz. Deixo aqui também um relatório elaborado por mim porque uma ajuda 'visual' nunca é demais.

Desde a primeira vez em que vi o filme "Disturbia"(2007), que comecei a ver realmente o potencial do jovem Shia LaBeouf. Tinha ouvido falar nele uma ou duas vezes, mas nunca me tinha interessado no seu trabalho ao ponto de o pesquisar. Provavelmente este terá sido o ponto de partida da sua carreira: nesse mesmo ano participou (como personagem principal) em "Transformers".

Quanto ao resto do elenco, gostei muito de ver a Carrie-Anne Moss contracenar com David Morse, penso que fazem uma dupla incrivel (e foi benéfico para muita gente vê-la contracenar com outro actor sem ser o Keanu).

Já tinha visto outro filme deste realizador (D. J. Caruso) o "Taking Lives" com a Angelina Jolie. Não sei porquê, mas os seus filmes têm sempre grandes acidentes de automóvel (Taking Lives, Disturbia, Eagle Eye).

Prémios da Academia

Nesta madrugada foram entregues os Oscars, ou prémios da Academia de Artes e Ciências Cinematográficas. É espantoso observar a organização do evento, assim como o tipo de prestígio que um prémio destes pode trazer.

Há pouco tempo li um artigo noutro blog em que expressava a verdadeira importância deste evento em especial: "Aqui se fazem carreiras, não só no mundo do cinema". Não poderia estar mais correcto, desde o par de sapatos que são calçados pelas diversas actrizes, passando pelos vestidos, até aos seus penteados, tudo é analisado (muito bem analisado) pelos críticos e por vezes grandes carreiras começam mesmo antes do início do espectáculo.

É o maior espectáculo cinematográfico e de entrega de prémios do ano e, mesmo assim, não é ultrapassado pela quantidade de fundos necessários para o organizar. Num tempo em que qualquer euro/dólar/libra é necessária à sobrevivência das vitimas de 'desastres', é impressionante o que se gasta com este tipo de 'futilidades'.

Pessoalmente, e não sendo fundacionista, penso que uma entrega de prémios poderia não exigir tantos gastos, porque apenas os 'laureados' irão ser relembrados (talvez) para sempre. Quem é que ainda se lembra do vestido da Sandra Bullock quando foi pela primeira vez aos Oscars? Exacto, são poucos os que ainda se lembram deste tipo de coisas que já aconteceram há anos...

É impressionante a forma como pequenas estatuetas podem render milhões.

Ainda não vi o "Crazy Heart", e acho o Jeff Bridges espectacular, mas não consigo perceber como é que o Christian Bale ainda não recebeu nenhuma estatueta destas. Ou o Gerard Butler... O primeiro foi Batman por duas vezes e em 2000 fez o "American Psycho"; já o segundo encarna cada personagem de forma diferente, conseguindo alternar entre um romance, filme de acção, thriller, drama...
